James Leslie Wright (1862-1954) worked in the manufacturing industry in the Midlands and began collecting British works on paper in 1928. Shortly before his death he gifted over four hundred to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. His daughter, Hope Keith (1902-83), also collected watercolours.
