During Smith's 1795 tour of North Wales, we can fairly accurately work out Smith's route through the detailed and dated inscriptions he made on the original mounts, such as with the present watercolour. On the 14th June, Smith was at Devils Bridge, by the 1st July he was at Raglan, then Carmarthen (9th), St Bride's Bay, St David's Head (10th), Bardsey Island (23rd), top of Snowdon (26th) Beddgelert (27th).
