This is from the rare series of watercolours by Turner of Oxford College Eights dating from the 1820s. Brasenose College have been rowing on the Isis since 1815 making the Brasenose College Boat Club (or BNBC), along with Jesus College, the oldest collegiate boat club in the world. On the bow of the boat is the Childe of Hale's Nose which was fixed there in the early years of Eights Week.
A related watercolour of the Exeter College Eight is in the Yale Center for British Art.
