Tucker married fellow artist Julia Mary Maile and they had five sons, all of whom became artists. In 1865, Tucker moved to the Lake District where he remained until his death. He undertook regular sketching tours throughout Europe and perhaps this and the following work were executed either on his way to or from one of these trips.
