In early 1805, Crotch resigned all his Oxford posts except the Professorship and moved his family to London where he quickly built up a private musical teaching practice. He would return to Oxford every summer however to take part in concerts and official functions. He took a house in Great Portland Street but in June 1808 moved to no.2 Duchess Street, Marylebone.
